ERS Updates

As part of our efforts to improve the accuracy, utility, and efficiency of our reporting process, a number of updates to ERS have been made for 2019. Please review the information, videos, and documents on this page to help you prepare for the 2019 programming year.

Objectives and Outcome Indicators

Animal Production Systems

N.C. Cooperative Extension animal production systems programs provide education and outreach to livestock, poultry, and aquaculture producers, processors, and packers and equine owners, to enhance sustainability, animal health and wellbeing, improve productivity and profitability, protect the safety and security of our food supply, and protect our natural resources.

Plant Production Systems

N.C. Cooperative Extension plant production systems programs provide education and outreach to crop, vegetable, fruit, ornamental horticulture, nursery, timber and fiber producers and packers, and landscape professionals to enhance sustainability, improve production efficiency, protect the safety and security of our food supply, and protect our natural resources.

Natural Resource and Environmental Systems

N.C. Cooperative Extension environmental and natural resource systems programs provide outreach and education to promote environmental stewardship and the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices in agricultural and timber production, soil preservation, water, and air quality, promoting recycling, composting, and waste disposal, and minimize wildfire risks.

Consumer Horticulture

N.C. Cooperative Extension consumer horticulture programs provide outreach and education to promote non-commercial production of vegetables, flowers, lawns, ornamentals, and other plants in home or community settings.

Community Development

N.C. Cooperative Extension community development programs build strong, thriving communities that come together to collaboratively address critical issues and enhance the quality of life and economic, social and environmental resiliency. Extension addresses the critical issues facing people and places through community and economic development work in leadership, workforce development, entrepreneurship, civic engagement and volunteerism, community planning, and disaster preparedness.

Food Safety and Nutrition

N.C. Cooperative Extension food safety programs provide training and technical assistance to food processing, packing, and food service industry personnel on food safety practices and preventative controls for human food. Our food safety programs for families and consumers provide education on safe home food handling, preservation, and safe food preparation practices. Extension’s nutrition and well-being programs provide outreach and education to provide knowledge and skills necessary for families and consumers to be empowered to reduce the risk of chronic disease through the adoption of recommended nutrition and physical activity behaviors.

Family and Consumer Sciences

N.C. Cooperative Extension family and consumer sciences programs provide outreach and education to consumers, community groups, business, and families to address the challenges affecting consumer and family well-being. Programs focus on areas such as parenting, child care, family relationships, financial resource management, aging, healthy homes, and disaster readiness, response, and recovery.

4-H Youth Development

N.C. Cooperative Extension 4-H youth development programs prepare youth for future success and provide opportunities for youth to develop and use knowledge and skills in Agriculture, Citizenship, Healthy Living, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by participating in clubs, camps, school enrichment programs, afterschool programs, and special interest programs.
