Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation
NC State prohibits unlawful discrimination and harassment based on a person’s protected status in University programs and activities. NC State also prohibits retaliation for any protected activity. “Protected Status” is defined as an individual’s actual or perceived: race, color, or national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy or related conditions), age, disability, genetic information, religion, and veteran’s status.

North Carolina General Statute § 168A-7 – Discrimination in Public Service is North Carolina’s State Law which regulates discrimination in public service and guides University policy.
UNC System POL 300.8.5 – Equality within the University of North Carolina requires that each person is treated as an individual deserving of dignity and inclusion.
POL 04.25.05 – Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination Policy This policy defines prohibited conduct and outlines general provisions the university will follow with respect to handling allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
REG 04.25.02 – Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation Complaint Procedures This regulation serves as a companion to NCSU POL 04.25.05 (Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination Policy) to outline the specific procedures relating to the discrimination, harassment, and retaliation complaint resolution processes at North Carolina State University.
REG 04.25.06 – Equal Opportunity, Title IX and Non-Discrimination Training for Employees This regulation outlines the University’s equal opportunity, Title IX and non-discrimination training requirements for employees.
Title IX – Sex Discrimination
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” — Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
At NC State, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our community learns and works in an environment free of sex discrimination and sexual harassment. Consistent with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, NC State does not discriminate against students, employees or members of the community on the basis of sex in any of its programs or activities.
Title IX requires that all educational institutions that receive federal funds or financial assistance prohibit sex discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including recruitment, student admissions, financial assistance, housing, access to academic offerings, research and extension programs.
NC State’s Office of Equal Opportunity implements and monitors NC State’s Title IX compliance procedures. The vice provost for equal opportunity is the Title IX coordinator and works in partnership with the deputy Title IX coordinators. Visit the Title IX website for information on consultation services and filing complaints, available training, and printable Title IX posters. The Pregnancy and Parenting page has information and resources for individuals who identify as pregnant or have a pregnancy-related condition. Individuals can find information about the request process for reasonable adjustments as well as the complaint form for individuals who feel they have been discriminated against based on the basis of pregnancy.

Reasonable Accommodations
NC State provides reasonable accommodations based on disability and religion as well as adjustments based on pregnancy for applicants, employees, students and program participants.

We provide equal opportunity in all of our programs, activities and services, as required by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and other applicable laws that prohibit disability, religious, and sex discrimination.

REG 04.20.05 – Service Animals for Persons with Disabilities This regulation addresses the use of service animals on campus by qualified individuals with disabilities. Pets and therapy animals are not considered service animals and therefore are not covered by this regulation.
REG 04.25.05 – Information and Communication Technology Accessibility This regulation applies to the university’s information and communication technology resources and includes their procurement, development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance.
REG 02.20.01 – Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities This regulation addresses the eligibility of students for academic accommodations in educational programs, services, and activities at NC State, as well as the provision of such accommodations to students with various types of disabilities.
